I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have traveled all over the world and while I love and appreciate the different cultures and lifestyles that I’ve experienced, the Bay Area will always be my home. I graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in Integrative Biology and I worked at Genentech, Inc. until I became a mother, at which point, I decided to quit my lab job and take on the job of stay-at-home-mom. When my children were in middle school, I decided to take a ceramics class. After taking just one class, I was enamoured with the art. I took one more class and while I didn’t realize this at the time, I had begun building my business.

I often visited my local ceramics supply store and got to know the owner, who was a treasure trove of information on techniques and problem solving. I bought a wheel and supplies, but needed a kiln. The store owner had a 30 year old, manual, electric kiln and sold it to me for just a few hundred dollars—it was an incredible deal. I set up shop in a corner of our house and practiced as much as I could with the little time I had being home full-time with two pre-teens.

One day, I took some of my pieces to a local gift shop and asked the owners to give me their honest opinions on my work. They asked if they could sell it in their store and I was elated. I made small bowls and soap dishes at first, but eventually became more confident in my designs and expanded my inventory.

Since then, I have sold in retail stores around the Bay Area, participated in shows and markets, and my favorite, selling at my local Farmers’ Market. I love meeting my customers and anyone who is interested in my art.

When I’m not working on my ceramics business, I enjoy playing violin and guitar, watercolor, knitting, any kind of craft, getting outdoor exercise, traveling with my family, trying to teach sign language to our cat and dogs, spending quality time with my husband and my closest friends, and of course, being mommy to my kids, who are now young adults.
